Way back in 2005, I saw Cedric's house tour on our site and I was mesmerized by the clean simplicity and elegance of his kitchen setup (above). At the time our own kitchen was practical and cooked some great meals, but there was a lot
wanting (below).
When the time finally arrived, and I got to renovate a few years later, I remembered Cedric's innovation and copied a lot of his kitchen, from the cooktop (
DeLonghi) to the fridge (
Summit). That was also when I realized how many good ideas I was taking in from the blog everyday that were lodging in my memory.
But the most exciting part was copying his glass backsplash invention, which I'd never seen before. Working only from pictures, I ordered a similar piece of thick glass and had the edges beveled for softness. This allowed us to bypass a
backsplash and show off our uninterrupted colorful accent wall. It was also easy to clean.
This is now a great DIY recommendation of mine: forgo the backsplash, go with the glass! In a pinch or in a rental, Cedric's idea is a brilliant solution.
