We couldn't do it without you. |
As 2008 comes to an end and we reflect on Wordstock's successes, a common thread begins to emerge: you. You were there every step of the way, encouraging us, volunteering,
donating, and providing expertise and feedback. We couldn't have done it without you.
If you're a reader and a writer, you attended the book festival and contributed to the 16% increase in ticket sales, and filled the audiences of the 195 authors who participated in Wordstock. You participated in one of the 28 writing
workshops at the festival. You encouraged our partnerships with organizations like Literary Arts, the Independent Publishing Resource Center, and Live Wire by attending The Oregon Book Awards, the IPRC's Text Ball, and Wordstock's own
Poetry Slam Competition. You made the festival the great success it wassuch a success, in fact, that one of this year's visiting authors called Wordstock "the best book festival in the United States."
If you're a teacher, you supported us (and sharpened your writing skills) by attending Wordstock for Teachers, with nearly 200 other teachers representing over 55 different school districts. Maybe you took one the 40-hour "Teacher as
Writer" trainings our organization, Community of Writers, held last summer in Salem and Tigard. Or maybe you're participating in our yearlong pilot program at Rosa Parks Elementary in North Portland to bring students, parents, and teachers
together to celebrate the written word.
We are thrilled to be able to provide such important programs for people like you throughout the Pacific Northwest.
We hope you can help us continue to provide them by remembering us in your end-of-year charitable giving.
As a not-for-profit organization, we depend on donations from individuals like you to keep going. Without your help, we cannot continue to do the work we do. So as you make plans for your end-of-year giving, please support Wordstock and
Community of Writers. Through our partnership with Network for Good, you can donate quickly and safely over the Internet by clicking on the "Donate Now" button on the right side of this email, in either a one-time donation with a
monthly donation throughout the year. If you prefer to make your holiday donations by check, you can send it to the address below and we will send you a receipt for your tax records.
Please take five minutes right now to support Wordstock and Community of Writers so that we can continue to provide professional development opportunities for teachers in writing, and to stage the book festival that has become the
premier gathering for book lovers in the Pacific Northwest. Like you.
Best regards, and happy holidays,
Greg Netzer
Executive Director
P.S. Don't forget to leverage your donation to Wordstock and Community of Writers with an equal donation to the
Oregon Cultural Trust and receive a tax credit for 100% of the amount.
