BEF Plays in the Big Leagues
Two Major League Baseball teams have partnered with nonprofit BEF to support the development of clean, renewable energy. The Tampa Bay Rays purchased enough Green Tags from wind energy to offset fan automobile travel for the home opener, all stadium electricity use for six scheduled sustainability-themed home games, and all Tampa Bay Rays employee commuting in 2008. The Rays are working to educate fans about ways to reduce their own carbon footprint through conservation as well as purchasing Green Tags.

The Boston Red Sox, in partnership with BEF, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and National Grid, unveiled a new solar array at Boston's Fenway Park on May 19, 2008. The solar array is connected to the stadium's hot water system and will replace 37 percent of the gas traditionally used to heat water for the park, saving energy, money and avoiding 18 tons of CO2 emissions each year.

Jack Johnson Partners with BEF
As you may have heard, we announced that musician Jack Johnson has chosen BEF as a partner for his 2008 World Tour!

• Just a reminder that every time you watch our new BEF video on his Web site, the Jack Johnson All At Once charitable foundation will donate $1 to BEF. To watch the video, click here, scroll down, and watch it all the way through. We are very excited about our new video that was designed by the generous creative team at Sandy Montana.

• Any BEF Green Tag orders placed online by September 14 -- and reference Jack Johnson -- will be matched by his foundation. In other words, your purchases will have double the benefit to our environment!

• For those of you who live in the Pacific Northwest, visit our BEF Blog to learn more about how you can win a free pair of Jack Johnson tickets for the August 20 show in St. Helens, Ore.! Our drawing will take place on August 1st.

Thank you for your support!
The Next Model Watershed
In April, BEF began the search for the next suite of 10-year Model Watershed restoration projects. BEF staff solicited letters of interest from across much of the West. We received responses from myriad groups located across eight different U.S. States.

We are now performing in depth reviews of the many groups that applied for Model Watershed support in 2008. BEF expects to develop and support new 10-year Model Watershed projects from top candidates that share BEF's commitment to develop long-term restoration strategies and track and measure ecological outcomes. Measured results will demonstrate that BEF's investments in long-term and science-based strategies can yield substantial ecological improvements to the nation's rivers and streams.
Solar 4R Schools Shines in Cowlitz County
With funding and support from Cowlitz PUD, Solar 4R Schools installed two new installations in May--our first in Cowlitz county. On May 31 students, teachers and family members convened for an open house at Wake Robin Environmental Learning Center in Longview, Wash., to celebrate the center's new 1kW system. Just a few days later, on June 4, students and teachers at Toutle Lake High School in Toutle, Wash. dedicated the school's new 1kW system, and discussed the bright future for green-collar jobs and the importance of renewable energy. Read more and see the pictures on BEF's blog.
