Airline and Airport Performance Data When You Need It
Here is your new on-time performance report for worldwide carriers and airports from FlightStats. We track the performance of over 150,000 flights per day and archive the data for analysis and publication. The articles below allow
you to download detailed performance reports on the world's 50 busiest airports, US major airline performance, North American airport performance and European carrier performance. The data includes the percentage of on time
arrivals and gives details on the percentage of flights that arrive late (15-30 min), very late (30-45 min), excessively late (>
44 minutes), average delays, maximum delays, cancellations and diversions.
You'll find on-time arrival performance data for March 2008, year-to-date performance for 2008, and 2007 year-end summaries so you can see the trends, find out who's the best and who's the worst.
We're also introducing FlightStats Analytics for the Media, a subscription service that allows you to get daily, weekly and monthly custom reports that will keep you informed of the airlines and airports that matter most to your readers -
in real time.
You may republish any and all data included in this report. We ask only that you attribute the data to FlightStats.com and include a link to http://www.flightstats.com if you publish the data in any form online.

Top 50 World Airports -
Arrival Performance
Over the past few months, we've supplied journalists with data comparing the on-time arrival and departure performance of the world's 50 busiest airports (measured by number of passengers served) - a list compiled by Airports Council
International and IATA. The resulting articles created a bit of a stir mainly due to the fact that data on airport performance outside of the US is very difficult to come by. So starting this month, we'll make these reports part of our
monthly output.
So what does the data show?
-
You can expect to arrive on time if you're flying into or out of Japan's Narita or Haneda airports. These two Tokyo airports topped the list in on-time performance in 2007.
-
Singapore's Changi, Munich's Franz Josef Strauss, and Sydney's Kingsford Smith airports round out the top five performing airports for on-time arrivals
-
Don't expect to arrive on time if your destination is either New York or London as all six major airports serving those two cities are parked at the bottom of the on-time arrival list.

US Carriers' On-time Performance Continues to Slip
2007 was considered a really bad year for air travel in the US with only 73.5% of flights arriving on time (within 15 minutes of schedule). Yet with one major exception, US major carriers are turning in an even worse record in 2008 with
an aggregate on-time performance year-to-date of only 70.7%. If it weren't for USAirways improvement of nearly 10 percentage points over last year, the industry would have a less than passing grade.
March was slightly better than the YTD performance at 71.75%, yet still below the year-end 2007 numbers. Cancellations were a big story in March as first Southwest, then American, then Delta had to take older 737 and MD-80s out of action
for FAA-ordered safety inspections.

North American Airports - Few Bright Spots
So far in 2008, the West is the best - by far. North America's best performing airports are all way west of the Mississippi. Portland (PDX), Phoenix(PHX), Salt Lake City(SLC) and Oakland(OAK) are the best destinations for on-time
arrivals.
As you head east, O'Hare is struggling mightily. March was a month Chicagoans would prefer to forget. Less than half of the scheduled flights arrived on time with cancellations zooming to nearly 7%. Year-to-date is marginally better at
55.82% on time arrivals at ORD.
JFK's trends are encouraging. Traffic management may be behind a measurable improvement there. JFK ended 2007 with only 59.8% on-time arrivals. Year-to-date performance, however, is up over four percentage points to 63.93% with March
'08 at 61.09%. The other major New York airports, Newark and La Guardia continue to occupy the bottom of the list with 59.13% and 55.51% on-time performance year-to-date.
In aggregate, North American Airports are getting less than 70% of their flights in on time.

Lufthansa and Easyjet Lead the Way Among Europe's Largest Airlines
Lufthansa and Easyjet set the standard for on-time arrival performance in Europe among Europe's largest airlines. Deutsche Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline performed near the 80% on-time level throughout 2007, year-to-date in 2008 and for
the month of March.
Easyjet is showing marked improvement in its 2008 year-to-date performance. The airline has averaged better than 80% on-time performance so far in 2008 up from its 2007 mark of 73.5%.
British Airways continues to slide below its 58.8% 2007 showing with only 53.6% of its 2008 flights arriving on-time.
